The Young Democrats of Massachusetts have long advocated that true Democracy comes with the participation of every eligible citizen at the ballot box. We have been calling for updates and reforms in the Massachusetts election laws that would improve the ease and accessibility in voting.
Sign our Petition to update the Massachusetts election laws now!
Recently, the Massachusetts House of Representatives passed an elections reform bill, one of the first major pieces of legislation this year. The Senate is taking that bill up as early as tomorrow, and we need you to tell your Senators to vote yes on S. 1975 - An Act Relative to Election Laws. This bill will:
Allow 16 year olds to pre-register to vote so they are properly enrolled to vote as soon as they turn 18.
Allow citizens of the Commonwealth to register to vote online. Currently you may only register by paper.
Allow registered voters to vote early, up to 10 days before election day.
Require the Secretary of State to host a website where citizens can look up voter registration status and polling location.
These updates are much needed, and effect young voters heavily.
Sign the petition to tell your Senator to update the election laws now by voting for S. 1975.
2014 is going to be a big year in politics for the Commonwealth with a hotly contested Governor's race and plenty of constitutional offices and legislature races to volunteer for. But before you throw a house party, make a donation, or swing by your local campaign HQ, consider how much more Democratic those winning votes will be with real election reform.
If you love clean and fair elections with broad voter engagement, then Sign our petition and call and email your local officials today to show your support for a modern Massachusetts.
